The scam that has affected me alot lately is selling crafting materials. They ask for an amount of lets say taned hides for example, wtb 205 taned hides 12g ea. I say sure and put 205 hides in the window and they put 2plat and 46gold instead of 2 plat and 460 gold. At first I figured they were making a mistake or slow in the head but when its happening several times a night by different people its intentional. Now instead of correcting the trade I cancel the trade and move on to the next possible buyer. I could care a less if they get there hides and like hearing them whine about being sorry for the next 15 minutes. Its always at Drocs dist 1, at least for me. FYI

I cant believe someone would be that desperate for 400 +/- or whatever gold. Its so easy to aquire just playing the game.

I think the more troubling thing, is the people who have to cheat others out of there item or money. Yes you should check as I always do. I have had people try to give me gold not plat, I have had people try to sell me customized weapons etc.

Its one thing you should always do is check money, item etc. I always wait till item is up then wait and check everything. Also watch for people who change items on you. I have had this a few times as well.

I think its a sad thing where people can only earn money from ripping others off. But 99% of the time it could be avoided if you just slow down and take 10 seconds to check over everything.

As in any game people cheat. Its the only way for them to move forward. When you have no skills (and it does not take much in GW), this is what happens. Mistakes happen but really it shows you are dealing with someone, who can only do this to get anywhere.

Sigh, I fell for a scam like 2 months ago in ToA. It's so annoying. "WTS Ecto 5k"... I trade... because I was gonna sell it off real quick and do another run with my SS partner. The guy trades me a mursaat token, and i click accept on instinct. I look up then and realize I had made a huge mistake and the person clicks accept. I tell em I screenshoted everything, which I did afterwards and they beg for forgiveness. I ignore them and don't report it, I'll just let the noob feel self conscious about what he did.

Why not POST a 3 strike and your out rule. Perfect for the ToA idiots (bots/scammers) that want to buy ecto for 7k even when the trader hits 7k ><

If you put 7g, instead of 7plat one time - it could be a mistake BUT if it happens 3 times in a row - OBVIOUSLY OBVIOUSLY OBVIOUSLY a scammer or a bot. Especially if they do it 3 consecutive times and in the same trading session - I had to test it

They have it posted on the sign in screen - 3rd party programs - so enforce it.

For the first 3 strikes, ban for 3 days. Next 3, permanent ban. BUY-Bye!!!

For the original poster = absolutely screen shot and report. If anet/ncsoft get enough complaints about the same account (especially in a short amount of time) - they have banned accounts in the past. I just wish they would post SPECIFIC INFRACTIONS - PROMINENTLY so everyone sees it.

Post something about bannable (sp?) infractions - what is accepted and what is not and more importantly what the penalty is for these infractions

Meh.
The amount of scammers has greatly increased in the last days. Everytime i zone into a district someone is trying to pull off a scam or complaining he was scammed.
In every single damn Trade the other one tries to scam me in one way or another. Putting a wrong weapon, placing gold instead of plat etc etc. Of course that doesn't work but it's just the sheer amount of attempts that is annoying.

Whats especially funny is a certain guild that tries to scam people with quest items.

First there will be a person spamming wtb in the local chat. He is mostly buying Cantha Collector or Questitem Stuff (like the tattered bear or Soul Stones) with flashy names for insane prices like 90 Plat.
A few seconds later a second person appears and well lo and behold, pure coincidence i guess, he wants to sell just the exact same item the other person wants to buy for 40 Plat. Meh. Pity is, a few folks have fallen for it, thinking they made a quick and dirty trade.

I buy and sell heaps of high end minipets, shiro, rurik, bone dragon etc. i have never fallen for a scam.

at least 8 out of 10 people who want to trade try to scam me.
i use to say please dont attempt to scam me blar blar blar but now its F%&$ OFF Scamming C$^&!!! and i often get the reply, your using abusive language im reporting u.

i always take screen shots or frapp the whole trade.

there needs to b a way we can beat the piss out of scammers.

I've been run a few times, mostly to mission locations I couldn't find in the Desert. Personally I've found runners to be the friendliest players in Guild Wars. In my opinion, Scammers are those millions and 3 people selling "Morons useless Hammers of Stupidity" for 35K, or "Jungle Troll Mini-Pet of Uselessness" for 100K.

Everyone knows how long it takes to make money in Guild Wars and I seriously would like to meet the idiots who would fork out 50K for some item no better than the max-damage items at 5K.

Go to the International District in the Desert (GW1) and you'll find them full of Monks of every size and second profession, some even running in circles and none saying a word, on any channel. My team and I spent a full half-hour cracking jokes and laughing at this site.

I have a list, its easy enough. People who have tried to scam me. Or people who are getting there name spammed in general, cause they tried or just scammed someone else.

I do not deal with them. Buying or selling. Be nice to have a thread like this, but to easy to abuse if you do not do it yourself.

I notice as well. A LOT MORE people lately are scamming. There is one "K. W." that is in general chat about scamming almost daily it seems.

I wish we had an auction house. be alot easier buying/selling and can get rid of scamming on selling/buying.

If someone scams you I would just screen shot the convo, get time date zone and dist. Go to guild wars site report it. if enough people report the same person on scamming, they might do something. Not sure if each time something is reported against them, if it flags there account so they can keep track.

I've been scammed twice in gw

once when i was a noob i bought a nolani wand for 10k (HoD wand..LOL)

other time was a few weeks back...when i got impateint at buyer and lost 6 ecto, for like 40g or something like that.

the 1st time..i was a victim of my own noobness and didnt report the guy, the 2nd time i DID report the guy, and i had friends add his name to their friends list to see if he came on at all over the next few days.

he didnt surface at all..which makes me think he got banned, it was the nightfall PvE weekend..i would like to think he missed it becuase of me.

anyway when i or a guildy get scammed we get all our alliance members who are online to continously spam the scammer with SCAMMER!. the idea behind this is to make the scammers account unplayable, as there is a limit to ignore places.

Yes, but there is this thing called Do Not Disturb.

And I get that scammers are the lowest of the low in GW, but I don't think you and your buddies harassing them is the way to go.

Report them and let Anet handle them. If they don't do anything then put the scammer on your ignore list and warn your friends and alliance members about him/her.

Most scammers in ToA are idiots anyway, this guy tried the gold for plat trick on me yesterday. The thing is I knew before I started the trade that he would do it.
I went in to sell a few ecto "Selling Ecto for 6.5" I said. Right away this guys pm's me saying "I'll buy for 7p Each". Ding ding ding , alarm bells!

I started trade anyway and then when he tried to scam me i called him names and spammed his name in Local for 10 minutes.
